Doug Riley & Dione Taylor – Nov 20.2007

This past Sunday was the memorial tribute concert for Doug Riley at Convocation Hall in Toronto. There was a stellar lineup of performers playing to a full house, and not a dry eye in the house. David Clayton-Thomas, Dione Taylor, Motherlode, Dr. Music….the list goes on. For me the highlight was getting to play “When I Die” with Kenny Marco, Steve Kennedy and Wayne Stone from Motherlode….that was a gas! Dione Taylor and I also did “A Song For You” , dedicated to Doug of course. Dione had been working very closely with Doc at the time of his death…and she tore the house down. That girl is a force of nature….

On that note, this coming Friday i’m MDing a CBC Radio show at the Glenn Gould Theatre in Toronto for  Dione. It’s called ” A Little Respect”, a tribute to the music of Aretha Franklin. That show is also dedicated to Doug. We’ve got a 13-piece band jamming all Aretha tunes….should be a blast. Doug Riley was originally going to MD this show, and he had asked me to play 2nd keyboards with him…so i’ll be stepping into his shoes on this one….humbly.

soon,

Lou
