Its summer and its busy.
Why are summers so busy in my business? Well, you’ve got to take it when it comes. I’ve just agreed to MD a CBC-Radio show featuring the music of Motown, which ought to be a lot of fun. That’s Nov. 18th at the Glenn Gould Studio in Toronto. I also just finished all the songs for the new CBC-TV Xmas movie called “Christmas Dreams“, featuring Ed Asner, Tom Cavanagh and Cynthia Dale. Also just wrote the theme for the new reality series called “Chef Worthy”. And I just finished the score for a magic...

Sorry, it’s been awhile, but i’ve been hibernating and travelling over the winter. I never posted to talk about the Michael Bublé CD I worked on in December. Michael says it will be out this fall. I ended up doing the string and horn arrangements on 6 tracks ( but in this business you never know how many will end up on the finished CD ). I had a great time…..Michael had a terrible cold when i arrived, but started to feel better towards the end of the week. We recorded at The Warehouse in Gastown in downtown Vancouver....

Well, it’s been a heck of a year. Last week I wrapped up all the original music for the 23rd Gemini Awards, and the score for the upcoming Ron James New Year’s Eve Special on CBC. In the next few months I’ll be scoring a 1 hour magic special for the CBC as well, featuring the amazing Greg Frewin…..and will begin work on a CBC Xmas movie featuring Cynthia Dale. In the next couple of weeks I’ll be flying out to Vancouver to do some work on the upcoming Michael Buble album with Bob Rock. Wishing everyone a peaceful ho

Well, now that we have a winner for the Hockey Night in Canada Anthem Challenge, i can take my muzzle off! This was a really fun gig, getting to work closely with Bob Rock for a week on such a widely watched national event. It was like the best day job ever: 5 days, 5 tracks…one a day. In the morning we recorded the rhythm section…in the afternoon we recorded the orchestra…..around 4 were the celebrity overdubs….mix and outta there by 8! Next day, same thing! It’s not too often you get to do that everyday of the...

Well, it’s a total redux from last year…..just received 2 Gemini Award nominations for my work for the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame. The 2 nods are in the same category …Â Best Performance in a Variety Program. One was for my arrangement of Oscar Peterson’s “Hymn to Freedom” with Dione Taylor and the Faith Chorale, and the other was for my arrangement of “Ain’t Nobody Here But Us Chickens” for Emilie-Claire Barlow. On another note, in September I will be working on the new Anthem...

It’s been awhile but it’s been busy. I’ve spent the summer so far conducting a 20-piece orchestra on CBC’s “How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?”. It’s Andrew Lloyd Webber’s show, and the point of it is to find the new Maria for the upcoming Mirvish production of “The Sound of Music” at the Princess of Wales Theatre in Toronto. It was a runaway success in England, so we’ve got high hopes for it here. It’s been great fun, working with a hundred people on a show, instead...
